Gentlemans Bay Walkway
Location: St. Heliers, Auckland
Dates: June 2004 - July 2004
Details:
- Cleared existing vegetation including a 6m phoenix palm which was cut down and removed
- A helicopter was employed to transport the materials to site and remove vegetation
- Timber edged and metal walkway was constructed through the bush
- A crib wall was installed to support the steps
- On the lower section retaining walls were constructed to hold excavated material
- A timber guard rail was bolted to the structure
- 6 drains were thrust bored to prevent any landslips or soil erosion (also carried out by a helicopter at low tide)
- Steps on the walkway were cleaned and waterblasted to remove algal growth
- Step treads were covered in tensar netting to prevent any slip hazard
