Location: ST Heliers, Auckland
Dates: September 2007 - January 2008
Details:
This contract was completed within a tight timeframe as the area had to be accessible to the people of St Heliers over the Christmas holiday period. The work was programmed in several sections so that the town centre area was open during the pre-christmas period.
The worked involved:
- The removal of the existing street furniture items, steps to the beach and the felling of several old trees.
- The existing walkway was replaced with a raised boardwalk and timber kerb constructed from economically grown sustainable Vitex timber from the Solomon Islands.
- Sections of the existing seawall had to be rebuilt and filled with basalt where the existing steps were removed. Incertain areas small basalt retaining walls had to be added.
- Small sections of exposed aggregate concrete path were constructed to link the new broadwalk to the existing footpath along Tamaki Drive.
- The area around the toilet block and war memorial were extensively upgraded with new paving and handrails.
- Two new drinking fountains as well as new seats and bins were installed along the length of the upgrade.
