Manukau Foreshore

Details:

• Construction of a carpark and entrance roads
• Restoration of the foreshore
• Contract grew 30,000 native plants, with seeds collected from the Manukau eco-logical area
• Planted along the length of the reclaimed Manukau Harbour foreshore
• Winter planting over 3 consecutive winters with 10 members of staff planting for 2 months
• On planting completion a 13km gravel walkway was constructed
• Timber boardwalks and bridges were also constructed, this now forms part of the ‘Te Arahoa’ walkway
• 2 custom built timber bird hides were constructed to assist the prolific birdlife in the area
• Local Iwi were consulted on all issues
• Several well attended ‘Planting Days’ were held
• On going maintenance until 2011
