Water and Wastewater Treatment
HEB Construction has successfully completed many capital projects in this part of the industry and in many regions. We have completed a $4.7m upgrade to Te Maunga WWTP that included the construction of a 40m dia clarifier tank and modifications to the existing bioreactor tank.
Works included:
- the upgrade of 24 existing aeration banks, 13 new aeration banks including pipework,
- 6 Flygt 4410 mixers, 4 Flygt 4650 propeller pumps,
- 3 baffle walls, 1 contact wall, 1 divisional wall for propeller pumps,
- a new electrical switchboard, 4 new RAS pumps and all associated cabling.
There were also 80 electrical motors and 50 control loops installed.
Other plant upgrades in recent years include Te Awamutu, Clark's Beach, Te Kuiti, Paeroa, Warkworth, and Chapel Street Tauranga.

Pumping Stations
The group regularly installs all manner of pump stations as part of its operations. One recent example for North Shore CC was Margery WWPS. This was completed within a sheet-pile coffer dam below water table and the wet well was approximately 6.7m x 6.7m x 8m deep in reinforced concrete. Another type has been a GRP tank installed as part of the Renwick sewerage scheme in Marlborough and in the Bay of Plenty we regularly shaft sink to install pump stations in sand and below the water table.
Reticulation
The largest contract that we have been involved in has been the Waikato Water pipeline bringing treated drinking water from the Waikato River to Auckland to augment the water supply for the greater Auckland area.
As part of our general contracting activities we estimate that in an average year we install over 55,000m of new and replacement watermains. This includes new build for subdivisions as well as part of asset replacement and is in all parts of the country where we have an operating base. Our staff have experience with all materials from welded CLMS to PE and have the necessary equipment and qualifications to back that up. From our fabrication shop at Mt Maunganui we are also able to manufacture special bends, junctions and flanges in mild steel and stainless steel.

Asset Management
We also carry out maintenance contracts for water and wastewater networks that include reticulation, rising mains, pump stations and treatment plants. We carry out service connections, capital replacements and upgrades on these contracts. Management of these contracts includes inspections, reporting, 24x7 call outs and performance measurement including KPI's. Currently we hold the contract for United Water for Papakura District Council. This includes all of the above facets of asset management. For Taupo DC we currently hold the contract for the maintenance of the water supply distribution network.
