HEB Structures centres their operations at Mt Maunganui where there are extensive facilities to support the nationwide business.
We pride ourselves on being able to carry out most aspects of heavy civil engineering contracts in-house. Apart from our precast concrete operation, we have a large workshop which services the heavy haulage fleet and a fabrication shop.
We design and build our own steel formwork, falsework systems and steelwork production required for bridge building and associated heavy civils. This includes specialist transport systems for beam and girder launching.
HEB Structures have all the plant, labour, designers and experience required to build many types of structures. These include I beam bridges such as Mokau, Turangaarere and Hihitahi and T Roff beam bridges such as Puhinui, Otara Creek and Hewletts Road flyover. We also manufacture our own hollowcore units for bridges, recent examples being Highbrook, Hihitahi, Huntly and Katetoke, as well as farm bridges that can be very economical solution for larger spans.
Larger special beams are also made to particular designs. One recent and outstanding example is the L-shaped beams for the Rapahoe rail bridge in Greymouth. A common feature of all these bridge beams is the ability to carry out all the pre-stressing and post-tensioning in-house using our own expertise and jacking systems.
Additionally we have travelling formwork systems for balanced cantilever bridges such as the award-winning Otira Viaduct on the Alpine Highway and systems for glued segmental bridges that were a feature of Route PJK in Tauranga.
Whilst all of the examples mentioned above are road or rail bridges we use our equipment and know-how to accomplish a huge range of jobs that are not always infrastructure related. When Gulf Oil required a new storage depot at Mt Maunganui HEB Structures were employed to successfully manage the relocation of the tanks from Marsden Point.
We have also been involved with many port developments from Shakespeare Bay logging terminal for the Ports of Marlborough to sheet piling for the Ports of Tauranga. We were also partners in the Waikato pipeline contract, bringing water from the Waikato River to Auckland. In this instance we were responsible for the river intake works and balancing reservoirs en-route. Another aspect of our work has been the construction of off-shore outfalls such as Green Island in Dunedin where we built a walking platform for the construction through the surf zone and for trenching off-shore.
