The Huntly project will form part of the Waikato Expressway, connecting Auckland with the Waikato and Bay of Plenty.

The Huntly section involves 15 kilometres of four lane expressway, 3 million cubic metres of earthworks, a 60 m cutting through the Taupiri Pass, over 100 hectares of forest, bush and wetland enhancement and permanent protection of a sacred lagoon and two pa. HEB Construction has entered its second summer season with this project.

HEB Construction will be moving an impressive 3.5 million cubic metres of dirt  - most of which will come out of Taupiri Summit (a mountain near the works); nine rail bridges are being built over four streams and four local road bridges are being built at  Ralph, McVie, Orini and Waring Roads.  That’s not forgetting the 37 culverts to be built along with a pump station.

We expect to have this open at the end of this year - as long as the weather gods play nicely!
