Napier Port 6 Wharf
Napier is a growing region, and Napier Port recognised that its current infrastructure needed an expansion if it were to accommodate the same fantastic increases it had seen in the past 10 years: 50% more containers, 94% more cruise ships and 64% more bulk cargo.
After an ECI process throughout 2019, HEB Construction arrived on site early 2020 to assist with this problem, tasked with constructing the new $147 million Wharf 6. This 390-metre-long wharf will play a key role in accommodating Napier’s economic future, allowing the port to reduce congestion and bring in larger vessels.
Sustainability is a key component of the Wharf 6 build. The project has been designed in consultation with mana whenua, divers, and commercial and recreational fishers, as well as a large body of scientific research (in addition to exhaustive management plans) to ensure that we can manage any potential adverse effects construction and dredging may have on the Hawke’s Bay marine environment.
It is expected that Wharf 6 will be ready for use in late 2022.
