Our Civils, Southern Division has been working on a sizeable and important project, the Ngā Puna Wai Sport Hub. Situated beside the Canterbury Agricultural Park, it will combine facilities for a number of sporting disciplines – including an athletics track, hockey turfs, outdoor tennis courts and sports fields.  The project is sited on 32 hectares of Ngā Puna Wai near Wigram.

The first stage of the Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub Stage 1 development has seen the athletics track up and running, with hockey turfs, tennis courts and rugby league fields, community playing fields and facilities opening.

HEB has been responsible for putting in the access ways, car parks, underground services and many other things needed to support the sports hub. They have also coordinated and managed the construction of all the playing surfaces.

HEB, who helped build the Christchurch Adventure Park, were chosen to take the lead in the development of Nga Puna Wai because of their experience in constructing sports parks across the country  and their collaborative approach to working with communities to deliver fantastic places.

Christchurch City Council Recreation Services Manager David Bailey said construction of the sports hub was more than just another project for HEB; it was a way to make a meaningful contribution to the community.

“They have kids who play sport and they understand the importance of this project and the desire that exists to see it come to fruition,’’ Mr Bailey said.
