Bledisloe North Wharf extension
Port of Auckland is increasing its capacity and consolidating its footprint, as endorsed in Auckland Council’s Long-term Plan. To support this, we are delivering a new pile-supported berth at the northern end of the Port of Auckland’s Bledisloe Terminal, for large cruise and “roll-on, roll off” cargo ships, which can carry machinery and vehicles.
Ships are getting larger, and Tāmaki Makaurau’s existing infrastructure isn’t fit for purpose. Our mahi will help to meet freight needs, support the cruise industry, and provide more access to the waterfront, while reducing congestion in the ferry basin.
The wharf extension is staged across separable portions to optimise programme and maintain operations. Our mahi includes partial demolition of the existing structure, and installing concrete piles, a new precast and insitu deck, and rock revetment upgrades beneath the wharf, reusing existing rock wherever possible. We work closely with the Port on traffic management and construction sequencing, on land and in the water, to ensure their operations can continue safely and efficiently during construction.
This mahi also comes with strict environmental controls, to protect the moana and the taonga species within it. This includes managing water quality, controlling dust and sediment during construction, mitigating above-ground and underwater noise and vibration, to avoid impacting marine species.
