Napier Port 6 Wharf – Te Whiti
We built Te Whiti, Napier Port’s new 6 Wharf, to future-proof one of Aotearoa’s busiest regional ports and strengthen the supply chain for Hawke’s Bay and beyond. This project is one of New Zealand’s largest privately funded infrastructure builds in a decade, designed to keep our economy moving and our communities connected.
Our client, Napier Port, wanted a wharf that could accommodate bigger ships, improve operational efficiency, and deliver sustainable outcomes. From protecting kororā (little blue penguins) with a dedicated sanctuary, to creating artificial reefs and launching a Marine Cultural Health Programme, the project reflects our team’s commitment to environmental and cultural stewardship.
The works included constructing a 390-metre-long wharf, supported by 400 reinforced concrete piles. We dredged 1.3 million cubic metres of material to create a new berth pocket and swinging basin. Despite significant challenges and tight tolerances, the project was delivered 7 months ahead of schedule.
Te Whiti now enables Napier Port to handle larger container ships and cruise liners, boosting trade, tourism, and resilience. It’s an intergenerational asset that supports sustainable growth for the region and Aotearoa.
