Selwyn Maintenance Contract

Keeping people and commerce moving – no matter how remote.

Canterbury’s Selwyn District road network covers approximately 2,475 km of sealed road and over 1,000 km of unsealed road, including remote high-country tracks. Keeping this huge area moving is vital for the success of the Canterbury region and wider South Island – no small task for a road maintenance crew!

HEB Construction is currently the trusted maintenance partner of Selwyn District Council, working to ensure there is an uninterrupted flow of people and goods around the area.

Recycling is a key component of this contract, allowing us to reduce our waste going to landfill as well as carbon emissions. For starters, by adjusting our cold mix methodology, we’ve been able to reuse all milled-out material within the cold mix patching process. Additionally, our crews utilise slip material from the high-country slips which typically occur during heavy rainfall events in the district. Carting of this material only takes place on our return trips, to limit carbon emissions and the use of resources.

Our work

  • Planned and reactive maintenance activities across the Selwyn District road network, including full corridor maintenance, road markings, drainage, kerb and channel, vegetation control, and amenity maintenance.
  • Programmed works, including pavement and shoulder maintenance, dig-out repairs, and stabilising.
  • Full resealing of the road network (including asphalt and chipseal) where required, as well as annual pavement rehabilitation and footpath renewal.
