Taupō Airport Apron Redevelopment

We’re delighted to have delivered the apron redevelopment at Taupō Airport (Te Papa Rererangi o Taupō), a project that’s helping future-proof air travel for the heart of Te Ika-a-Māui (the North Island). This upgrade supports regional connectivity, helping to facilitate more flights and visitors to Taupō, and a stronger local economy.

Our client, Taupō Airport Authority, wanted a sustainable, high-performing apron that could handle more aircraft and reduce environmental impact. By using SteelGuard XL, we cut waste and carbon emissions, extended the apron’s lifespan, and delivered a safer, smarter solution for the airport and the Taupō community.

The works included resurfacing 16,000m² of standing apron & taxiway. We worked airside around a busy operational airport, planning meticulously to keep everyone safe and operations running smoothly. The project was delivered on time, on budget, and with zero health and safety incidents.

Taupo Airport and Alexandra Airport renewals

The result was a longer lifespan of the existing surface for charter and commercial jets, better resilience during disruptions, and the Infrastructure Project of the Year – Small Airports award at the 2025 NZ Airports Awards! This project is a great example of how smart delivery and collaboration can lift regional infrastructure for everyone.
